The ECOWAS Commission has
paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology
and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, to deepen collaboration on digital
innovation and regional development initiatives.
The meeting, held in Accra,
focused on strengthening partnerships between Ghana and ECOWAS in advancing
digital transformation, promoting innovation, and expanding opportunities for
young people across the West African sub-region.
Both parties reaffirmed
their commitment to enhanced cooperation in areas including digital economy
development, knowledge sharing, and the implementation of regional programmes
aimed at accelerating inclusive growth.
The ECOWAS delegation
expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s continued leadership and support for
regional initiatives, including ongoing efforts such as the ECOWAS hackathon
programme, which seeks to nurture digital talent and innovation across member
states.
Minister Samuel Nartey
George reiterated Ghana’s commitment to working closely with ECOWAS to develop
practical solutions that address shared challenges and strengthen the region’s
digital ecosystem for sustainable development.
The delegation included
officials from the ECOWAS Commission’s Digital Economy and Post Directorate,
Telecommunications and Regulation units, cybersecurity and internet
applications divisions, as well as communications officers.
The meeting concluded with a
mutual commitment to deepening collaboration and exploring new opportunities to
advance regional integration through digital technology and innovation-driven
initiatives.
