The Ethiopian Artificial
Intelligence Institute and the University of Gondar have emphasized the
critical role of institutional development in advancing Ethiopia’s
technological transformation, following a high-level engagement and tour of the
institute’s operations.
The remarks were made during
a visit involving senior officials from the University of Gondar, including
President Dr. Asrat Atsedewin, who praised the institute’s work in leveraging
artificial intelligence to support national development and modernization
efforts.
Dr. Asrat noted that
sustainable nation-building is anchored in strong institutions, describing the
Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute as a clear example of how
institutional capacity can drive technological progress and long-term national
transformation.
He further highlighted the
institute’s development of locally designed, problem-solving artificial
intelligence systems, describing them as a distinctive contribution to
Ethiopia’s innovation ecosystem and a reflection of indigenous technological
capability.
The Deputy Director General
of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, Mr. Teghsu Desalegn,
affirmed the institute’s readiness to strengthen collaboration with the
University of Gondar, particularly in areas of research, innovation, and
capacity building.
University officials
described the institute as a key driver of Ethiopia’s emerging technology
landscape and a symbol of the country’s evolving digital future, noting its
role in demonstrating continuous progress in artificial intelligence
development.
During the visit, officials
were taken through a presentation showcasing the institute’s full range of
activities, including its research programs and applied technology initiatives
aimed at addressing national development challenges.
