Telecommunications operator UNITEL has signed two major agreements aimed at advancing Angola’s digital transformation agenda, expanding national connectivity, and strengthening cooperation in space technologies and telecommunications infrastructure.

The agreements were announced during the first day of ANGOTIC 2026, a leading technology and innovation forum focused on digital transformation across the continent.

UNITEL formalized a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Space Programme Management Office (GGPN), signed by UNITEL Executive Committee President Amílcar Safeca and GGPN Director General Zolana João.

The agreement establishes a framework for institutional, technical, technological, and scientific cooperation, with a focus on advancing space technologies, geospatial solutions powered by artificial intelligence, connectivity expansion, innovation, capacity building, and broader digital transformation initiatives.

According to both parties, the collaboration is expected to enhance the integration of space-based technologies into national development strategies and support the deployment of advanced digital solutions across key sectors.

In a separate agreement, UNITEL signed a contract with Angola Telecom, represented by Amílcar Safeca and Angola Telecom Board Chairman Adilson dos Santos, for the sharing of telecommunications infrastructure.

The partnership is aimed at accelerating the expansion of broadband connectivity across Angola, including remote and border regions, while improving network coverage, redundancy, and resilience within the national telecommunications system.

Officials stated that the infrastructure-sharing agreement is expected to optimize existing resources, reduce duplication of investments, and strengthen the overall efficiency of the country’s telecommunications sector.

UNITEL said the two agreements reflect its continued commitment to supporting Angola’s digital transformation through investment in connectivity, innovation, and strategic partnerships that enhance access to digital services.

The initiatives form part of broader national efforts to build a more inclusive and future-ready digital ecosystem capable of supporting economic growth and technological advancement across Angola.
