The
South African International Maritime Institute (SAIMI) has signed a Memorandum
of Understanding (MoU) with the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) to
strengthen collaboration in maritime research, technology development, and
innovation commercialisation.
The
agreement establishes a framework for cooperation aimed at advancing innovation
within South Africa’s maritime sector, with a focus on translating research
outputs into viable technologies and commercial solutions.
The
partnership will also prioritise human capital development, knowledge exchange,
and capacity building to support skills development across the maritime value
chain.
Both
institutions are expected to collaborate on initiatives that enhance research
application in maritime industries while fostering stronger linkages between
innovation ecosystems and sectoral needs.
The
MoU reflects a shared commitment to supporting South Africa’s broader
innovation agenda and strengthening the role of technology in driving growth
and competitiveness within the maritime economy.
