As
part of his participation at ANGOTIC 2026 in Luanda, Angola, the Director
General of the Regional African Satellite Communication Organisation (RASCOM),
Timothy Ashong, has toured the INFRASAT facilities, gaining first-hand insight
into Angola’s telecommunications and satellite infrastructure capabilities.
The
visit was conducted alongside Diogo de Carvalho, President of the Board of
Directors of INFRASAT, and formed part of broader engagements aimed at
strengthening collaboration among African space and telecommunications
institutions.
The
tour highlighted key developments in Angola’s connectivity and satellite
infrastructure ecosystem, with discussions focusing on opportunities for
enhanced regional cooperation to advance digital connectivity, infrastructure
sharing, and space-enabled services across the continent.
Speaking
after the visit, RASCOM Director General Timothy Ashong noted that the
engagement reinforced the importance of African-led partnerships in building
resilient digital systems.
“This
visit has demonstrated the significant progress being made within Angola’s
satellite and telecommunications ecosystem. It also underscores the value of
collaboration among African institutions as we work collectively to expand
connectivity and strengthen digital infrastructure across the continent,” he said.
He
further emphasized that such exchanges are critical to accelerating Africa’s
digital transformation agenda.
“RASCOM
remains committed to fostering strategic partnerships that enhance innovation,
improve connectivity, and ensure that satellite communications play a central
role in bridging the digital divide in Africa,” Ashong added.
The
engagement also provided a platform for discussions on future cooperation
between RASCOM and INFRASAT, particularly in areas of satellite communications,
infrastructure development, and knowledge exchange.
RASCOM
reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen Africa’s
space and telecommunications capabilities and promote sustainable digital
growth across the continent.
