Ethiopia
has officially launched the Unified MESOB Platform, marking a major milestone
in the country’s digital transformation agenda and efforts to modernise public
service delivery through artificial intelligence and integrated digital
systems.
The
platform, developed by the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, was
inaugurated by Abiy Ahmed Ali, and is being positioned as a flagship digital
infrastructure initiative under the country’s broader innovation and technology
strategy.
Speaking
on the occasion of the launch, the Director General of the Institute, Worqou
Gatchena, described the Unified MESOB Platform as a significant breakthrough in
Ethiopia’s journey toward building indigenous technological capacity and
strengthening digital governance systems.
He
noted that the platform represents a key outcome of national efforts to develop
homegrown solutions capable of addressing governance challenges, improving
efficiency in public service delivery, and enhancing institutional transparency
and accountability. According to him, the system is designed to reduce
administrative inefficiencies while enabling citizens to access services more
seamlessly across government institutions.
The
Unified MESOB Platform forms part of Ethiopia’s broader digital transformation
framework, which seeks to leverage emerging technologies to modernise state
operations and improve citizen engagement. Officials say the system reflects a
strategic commitment to building technology capacity within the country and
reducing reliance on external platforms for critical digital infrastructure.
Worqou
Gatchena further emphasized that the platform is available across multiple
channels, including mobile applications on major app stores as well as
web-based access for computer users, ensuring broad accessibility for citizens.
The
launch has been framed as a demonstration of Ethiopia’s growing capabilities in
artificial intelligence and digital systems development, with government
stakeholders expressing confidence that the platform will contribute to
improved governance outcomes and enhanced service efficiency.
Authorities
also indicated that the initiative aligns with broader ambitions to share
Ethiopia’s digital innovation experience with other African countries,
positioning the platform as a potential model for scalable public sector
digital transformation across the continent.
