The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening digital trust and cybersecurity collaboration across Africa ahead of Cyber Week Africa 2026.
Data Commissioner Immaculate Kassait, SC, MBS, last Thursday joined the Principal Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy, Eng. John Tanui, alongside representatives from government, industry, academia, and development organisations at the Cyber Week Africa 2026 Partners Breakfast held in Nairobi.
The engagement brought together key stakeholders to explore coordinated approaches to enhancing cybersecurity, data protection, and digital resilience across the continent. Participants included NC4 Director Dr. Col. James Kimuyu and CyberPro Global Chief Executive Officer Mr. John Mutunga.
Discussions focused on the growing importance of safeguarding personal data and building digital trust as digital technologies continue to drive innovation in public service delivery, financial inclusion, and cross-border digital trade.
The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner highlighted the role of the Data Protection Act, 2019 in establishing a strong regulatory framework for responsible data governance. This includes strengthening oversight of data controllers and processors, promoting compliance, enhancing public awareness of privacy rights, and reinforcing accountability in the handling of personal data.
Cyber Week Africa 2026 is scheduled to take place from October 27 to 30, 2026, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi. The event is expected to bring together stakeholders from across Africa to advance dialogue, innovation, and partnerships aimed at strengthening cybersecurity and digital trust across the continent.
