Kenya has reaffirmed its
commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with China in the fields of
ICT, digital transformation, and innovation, as part of efforts to advance its
national digital agenda.
This was highlighted during
a courtesy call between William Kabogo Gitau and Guo Haiyan, where both parties
discussed opportunities to deepen collaboration in support of Kenya’s ongoing
digital transformation strategy.
The discussions centred on
key priorities under Kenya’s Digital Superhighway and Creative Economy agenda,
which aims to expand connectivity, strengthen digital infrastructure, and
promote innovation-led economic growth. The initiative is being implemented
under the broader development framework of the Kenyan government led by William
Ruto.
According to Kabogo, the
engagement reflects the longstanding and mutually beneficial relationship
between Kenya and China, particularly in areas that support technological
advancement and economic development. He noted that enhanced cooperation in ICT
and innovation could accelerate digital inclusion and create new opportunities
for businesses and citizens across the country.
China remains a significant
partner in Kenya’s infrastructure and technology development, with ongoing
collaboration spanning telecommunications, digital systems, and
capacity-building initiatives. Both countries are expected to explore further
areas of cooperation aimed at strengthening digital ecosystems and supporting
the growth of the creative and technology sectors.
The meeting underscores
Kenya’s broader ambition to position itself as a regional digital hub by
leveraging strategic international partnerships to drive innovation, expand
access to digital services, and build a more inclusive digital economy.
