Nigeria's Former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has participated in
high-level discussions at the Hamburg Sustainability Conference focused on
reshaping international development cooperation to reflect evolving global
realities.
Speaking
in his capacity as Co-Chair of the Future of Development Cooperation Coalition
(FDCC), Osinbajo held bilateral and multilateral engagements with global
leaders, including former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and former Costa Rican
President Laura Chinchilla, who co-chair a newly launched South-North Coalition
on Development.
Discussions
centered on strengthening coordination between emerging global initiatives
aimed at reforming development cooperation frameworks, with a focus on
improving responsiveness, inclusivity and effectiveness in addressing
contemporary development challenges.
Osinbajo
also joined South Africa’s Minister of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation,
Maropene Ramokgopa, in a panel discussion examining how international
cooperation systems can be reimagined to better align with current economic,
social and geopolitical conditions.
A
key component of the conference was a closed-door dialogue convened by the
Future of Development Cooperation Coalition, where stakeholders from
government, philanthropy, finance, civil society and international
organizations reviewed emerging principles guiding the Coalition’s work.
According to organizers, the session was designed to encourage critical
engagement and constructive feedback rather than formal endorsement.
Participants
emphasized that the future of development cooperation will depend on stronger
collaboration across institutional boundaries, greater adaptability and
sustained dialogue among global stakeholders.
