The Postal and
Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) has hosted the
kick-off meeting for Operation Serengeti 3.0, a major international initiative
aimed at strengthening Africa’s collective response to growing cybercrime
threats.
The meeting, held in
Victoria Falls alongside the CyberDrill Conference, brought together key
stakeholders including law enforcement agencies, technology companies,
cybersecurity firms and international partners to coordinate efforts in
tackling evolving digital threats across the continent.
Led by the International
Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), Operation Serengeti is focused on
combating a wide range of cyber-enabled crimes, including ransomware attacks,
Business Email Compromise (BEC), online fraud, phishing schemes, digital extortion,
and investment and cryptocurrency-related scams.
Discussions during the
kick-off meeting centred on operational planning, intelligence sharing and
strengthening cooperation among participating organisations ahead of
coordinated enforcement activities.
POTRAZ said the initiative
reflects the growing need for collaboration among African countries and global
partners as cybercriminals continue to exploit emerging technologies and
digital platforms.
Through initiatives such as
Operation Serengeti 3.0, stakeholders are working to enhance cyber resilience,
improve threat detection and response capabilities, and promote a safer digital
environment for citizens, businesses and governments across Africa.
