Smart Africa and the African
Union Commission have renewed their commitment to advancing Africa’s artificial
intelligence (AI) agenda through stronger collaboration on digital
transformation initiatives across the continent.
The discussions took place
during the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva, where Smart Africa Chief
Executive Officer Lacina Koné met with H.E. Ms. Lerato D. Mataboge, African
Union Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy.
The meeting focused on
strengthening cooperation between Smart Africa and the African Union on key AI
initiatives, including the Africa AI Council and preparations for the upcoming
Smart Africa Steering Committee meeting, which is co-chaired by the African
Union.
The engagement highlighted
the importance of coordinated continental efforts to accelerate responsible AI
adoption, strengthen digital ecosystems and ensure that African countries are
positioned to benefit from emerging technologies.
Smart Africa said the
collaboration reflects a shared commitment to advancing inclusive digital
transformation and building stronger partnerships that support innovation,
digital infrastructure development and the responsible use of AI across Africa.
