Kenya's Office of the Data
Protection Commissioner (ODPC) has launched an ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management
System (QMS), marking a significant institutional milestone aimed at
strengthening regulatory excellence, accountability and public service delivery.
Data Commissioner Immaculate
Kassait officially launched the Quality Management System, describing it as the
beginning of a new chapter for the Office and a strategic transformation in how
it delivers its mandate to protect the privacy rights of citizens and
residents.
The ISO 9001:2015 QMS is
designed to align the Office's operations with internationally recognised
quality management standards, ensuring consistent, evidence-based
decision-making, improved operational efficiency and enhanced service delivery.
According to the ODPC, the
system will strengthen leadership accountability, streamline internal
processes, reduce service turnaround times, improve stakeholder satisfaction
through transparent and responsive service delivery, and foster a culture of
continuous improvement and innovation.
The initiative supports the
Office's broader mandate of promoting compliance with Kenya's data protection
laws, enforcing regulatory requirements, raising public awareness and
strengthening institutional capacity in an increasingly data-driven economy.
The implementation of the
Quality Management System was supported by the World Bank through the Kenya
Digital Economy Acceleration Project (KDEAP), which is being implemented by the
ICT Authority.
Kassait commended the
dedication of the ODPC team in developing and implementing the system, noting
that their efforts have established a strong foundation for institutional
excellence and continuous improvement.
She reaffirmed the Office's
commitment to maintaining internationally recognised standards as it continues
to enhance trust, transparency and accountability in Kenya's data protection
ecosystem.
