The Nigerian Communications
Commission (NCC) has called for stronger collaboration among African
telecommunications regulators to accelerate digital transformation and
strengthen the continent's communications ecosystem.
The call was made by the
Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, Dr. Aminu
Maida, during the Heads of Regulators Roundtable held as part of the 7th
Ordinary Session of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) Conference of
Plenipotentiaries (CPL-26) in Abuja.
Delivering the opening
remarks at the roundtable, Dr. Maida underscored the importance of cooperation
among regulators in addressing emerging challenges and opportunities in
Africa's rapidly evolving digital landscape.
The Heads of Regulators
Roundtable brought together communications regulators and senior government
officials from across the continent to exchange perspectives on strengthening
regulatory frameworks, promoting innovation and advancing Africa's digital transformation
agenda.
Among the dignitaries
present at the session were the Permanent Secretary of Nigeria's Federal
Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Engr. Nadungu
Gagare, and the NCC's Executive Commissioner for Stakeholder Management, Barr.
Rimini Makama.
The roundtable formed part
of activities during the ATU Conference of Plenipotentiaries, which convened
ministers, regulators, policymakers and industry stakeholders from across
Africa to discuss the future of telecommunications, digital infrastructure, connectivity,
spectrum management and emerging technologies.
The conference also focused
on strengthening regional cooperation to expand meaningful connectivity,
improve digital inclusion and enhance Africa's collective voice in global
telecommunications and digital policy discussions.
CPL-26 concluded with the
adoption of key resolutions aimed at advancing the continent's digital
development agenda and reinforcing collaboration among African nations to
address shared communications and technology priorities.
