Rwanda has held discussions with the African Development Bank (AfDB) on strengthening cooperation in water and sanitation projects as the country seeks to expand access to reliable and affordable services.

The discussions took place on the sidelines of the Africa Water & Sanitation Systems Leadership Symposium in Kigali between Rwanda’s Minister of State, Armand Zingiro, and Mtchera Johannes Chirwa, Director of the Water and Sanitation Department at the African Development Bank Group, together with his delegation.

The meeting focused on measures to strengthen collaboration between Rwanda and the AfDB, particularly in accelerating the implementation of projects financed by the development bank.

The two sides also discussed advancing sustainable investments in the water and sanitation sector and improving the delivery of safe, reliable and affordable services to communities.

The engagement comes as African countries continue to face challenges in expanding water and sanitation infrastructure amid growing urbanisation, population growth and increasing demand for resilient public services.

Rwanda said closer cooperation with development partners will be important in speeding up the implementation of priority projects and strengthening investment in sustainable water and sanitation systems.
