UK Minister for International Development Kirsty McNeill has paid a working visit to Safaricom Ethiopia as the telecommunications company and its partners continue to explore opportunities to support investment, innovation and digital transformation in the country.

McNeill visited Safaricom Ethiopia yesterday afternoon during the ongoing two-day Global Partnership for Ethiopia (GPE) Board meeting. She was accompanied by the British Ambassador to Ethiopia, Darren Welch, and members of the British Embassy team.

During the visit, Safaricom Ethiopia’s leadership and the GPE Board briefed the Minister on the company’s journey and the rapid development of Ethiopia’s telecommunications and digital ecosystem.

The discussions examined emerging opportunities for further investment and innovation as Ethiopia continues to expand its digital economy.

Safaricom Ethiopia said continued partnerships with government, development institutions and other stakeholders would be important to delivering broader digital and economic benefits for communities and businesses across the country.

The visit comes as Ethiopia’s telecommunications market continues to evolve, creating new opportunities for investment in connectivity, digital services and financial inclusion.

Safaricom Ethiopia reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the country’s digital future and working with partners to create meaningful impact for communities and businesses across Ethiopia.
