The African
Telecommunications Union (ATU) has stepped up engagement with industry
stakeholders as Africa prepares for the World Radiocommunication Conference
2027 (WRC-27), with discussions focusing on spectrum planning, monitoring and
coordination.
ATU Secretary General John
Omo and Secretary General-Elect Eng. Kezias Kazuba Mwale engaged
representatives from industry participating in the ongoing African Preparatory
Meeting for WRC-27.
The engagement provided an
opportunity for ATU leadership to discuss developments in spectrum management
and examine digital frequency management solutions being demonstrated by
industry participants.
The solutions showcased
during the meeting are designed to support spectrum planning, monitoring and
coordination, areas that will be important as African countries prepare common
positions and priorities ahead of WRC-27.
ATU said direct engagement
with industry provides an important opportunity to understand emerging
technologies and gather practical perspectives from companies developing tools
for more effective spectrum management.
The Union emphasised the
importance of incorporating industry expertise and technological solutions into
Africa’s preparations for the global radiocommunication conference.
The African preparatory
process is bringing together policymakers, regulators, technical experts and
industry stakeholders to examine spectrum-related issues that will shape the
continent’s telecommunications and digital connectivity landscape.
ATU said it will continue to
welcome industry perspectives, expertise and technological solutions as Africa
advances its preparations for WRC-27 and works towards coordinated positions
that support the continent’s spectrum needs.
