The International
Telecommunication Union (ITU) has signed a new project agreement with South
Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) to advance digital inclusion for
older persons by improving their digital literacy and promoting independence in
an increasingly digital society.
The agreement was announced
by Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development
Bureau, who said the collaboration would focus on strengthening the capacity of
governments and service providers to improve the accessibility of digital
public services.
Under the initiative, the
ITU and MSIT will work to develop global guidelines and strategic frameworks
while providing targeted training to help older persons effectively access
essential services and participate fully in the digital economy.
The project is designed to
address digital inclusion challenges affecting older persons as governments and
service providers increasingly rely on digital platforms to deliver public
services.
Zavazava expressed gratitude
to the Government of South Korea for its continued support, noting that the
initiative represents the 21st joint project under the longstanding Framework
Cooperation Agreement between the ITU and the Korean government.
He said the latest agreement
underscores the enduring partnership and shared commitment to building an
inclusive digital society.
