The
Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has hosted an intensive five-day training
session for its engineers and technicians. The program, led by Eng. Mustafa
Arman from METEK Meteorologische Messtechnik GmbH, Germany, aimed to equip the
staff of GMet’s Engineering and Electronics Department with cutting-edge skills
in equipment maintenance, calibration, and software management.
Held
at GMet’s Instruments Lab, the training focused on the operation of advanced
instruments, including the wind tunnel, pressure chamber, radiation test
equipment, temperature test cabinet, and the COMBILOG software. These tools are
essential for ensuring precision in weather data collection and analysis. Eng.
Mustafa, who last trained the team five years ago, expressed his enthusiasm for
working with GMet again.
“It’s
always a pleasure to engage with such a dedicated group of professionals,” he remarked. “Their eagerness to
learn, despite the language barrier, stood out. Staying abreast of
technological advancements is critical for maintaining the highest
international calibration standards, and I’m confident the team is
well-prepared to meet these demands.”

The
training offered a practical, hands-on approach, allowing participants to gain
confidence in handling and maintaining the sophisticated equipment. Mustafa
highlighted the team’s commitment and reassured them of his continued support.
Collins
Ansah-Daniels, head of the Instruments Division at GMet, praised the program,
calling it an invaluable opportunity for skill enhancement. “Eng. Mustafa’s
expertise was exceptional,” he said. “Despite communication challenges,
he ensured every concept was thoroughly understood. However, five years is too
long between training sessions. Regular updates are essential to keep us sharp
and maintain our position as a reliable calibration hub.”
Ansah-Daniels
also encouraged institutions requiring calibration services to collaborate with
GMet. He emphasized that such partnerships not only enhance skills but also
generate revenue for the agency, contributing to its sustainability.
The
training concluded on a high note, with participants expressing confidence in
their ability to deliver world-class calibration services.
