The Ethiopian Space Science Society (ESSSO) has officially launched its highly anticipated 6th Space Internship Program, marking another milestone in the Society's ongoing efforts to cultivate the next generation of space scientists and innovators. The launch event, held in the presence of ESSSO’s top leaders, celebrated the Society’s commitment to empowering young talent to shape the future of the space industry.

Hon. Demeke Mekonnen, Chairman of ESSSO, formally inaugurated the internship program, highlighting its significance in enabling young people to channel their skills and creativity into the space sector. In his address, Hon. Demeke emphasized the vital role of young talent in driving innovation and ensuring Ethiopia's active participation in the global space industry.

Joining him at the event was Hon. Tefera Walwa, founder and former superintendent of ESSSO, who expressed his delight at witnessing the enthusiasm of the new interns. Hon. Tefera urged the participants to seize the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the space sector, underscoring the importance of their role in shaping the future of entrepreneurship and technological advancement.

The launch event also provided an in-depth orientation for the new interns, led by ESSSO staff who offered comprehensive insights into the program’s structure, expectations, and projects. The staff outlined the key areas of focus for the three-month internship, ensuring the participants are well-prepared to immerse themselves in meaningful work that aligns with ESSSO’s mission of advancing space science and technology.

Adding to the excitement, volunteer youth who had participated in previous editions of the internship program shared their experiences with the new cohort. Through an interactive Q&A session, they offered valuable advice and insights, motivating the new interns to make the most of this unique opportunity.

The internship program, which runs until early March, will engage fifty university students and recent graduates, providing them with hands-on experience in various space-related projects. As the sixth edition in ESSSO’s history, the program continues to serve as a powerful platform to inspire and nurture young talent, encouraging active participation in the development of Ethiopia’s space sector.
