As
part of Algeria's national strategy to enhance digital infrastructure, the
Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, has paid a working
and inspection visit to the wilaya of Adrar. Accompanied by a delegation of
experts, the Minister supervised the launch and commissioning of several
transformative projects designed to improve public services in the postal and
telecommunications sector for the citizens of the region.
A major highlight of the visit was the inauguration of a 650-kilometer fiber
optic link connecting Reggane to Bordj Badji Mokhtar. This state-of-the-art
project, completed by Algerian experts in record time, promises to enhance
network security across Adrar and Bordj Badji Mokhtar while supporting the
national and pan-African fiber optic transport network.
In line with Algeria's push for digital transformation in rural areas, the
Minister inspected the ongoing process of connecting agricultural zones in
Adrar totelecommunications networks. Additionally, the foundation stone was
laid for a new technical center for Algeria Telecom along the Adrar-Olive axis,
which aligns with major economic initiatives like the Algerian-Qatari
"Baladna" project for powdered milk and infant formula production.
The visit included an inspection of Mobilis's new headquarters, where the
Minister highlighted the need for a “Skills Center” in collaboration with
Algeria Telecom. This center will focus on training young people and students
in areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and cybersecurity,
thereby fostering technological advancement and capacity-building among
Algeria’s youth.
During visits to the commercial agencies of Algeria Telecom, Mobilis, Ooredoo,
and Gezi, the Minister emphasized the importance of improving customer service,
promoting electronic payment systems, and educating citizens on the benefits of
digital services.
A nationwide project to install 5,000 Mobilis network sites was announced,
aiming to extend mobile network coverage to isolated and agricultural areas,
improve internet speeds, and ensure connectivity along major roadways.
In addition to telecommunications advancements, the Minister supervised the
foundation-laying for a first-class post office near the Sidi Mohamed Belkabir
Mosque. The inspection also included a recently operational post office in
Awlad Ahmed Timi, where the Minister reiterated the importance of accessibility
for people with special needs. Adrar will soon benefit from 16 new automated
counters, part of a larger initiative to install 600 such counters nationwide,
bringing postal services closer to citizens.
These initiatives are a testament to the government’s commitment to developing
robust digital infrastructure and improving postal and communication services
in alignment with the President of the Republic’s vision for a thriving digital
economy.
