Airtel Africa
has pledged its support to key initiatives aimed at empowering the country’s
youth and accelerating its digitization efforts. During a high-level meeting
with His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja, Airtel Africa
Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal, and CEO Sunil Taldar announced a series of
strategic partnerships and investments designed to drive Nigeria’s digital
economy forward.
The meeting
highlighted Airtel Africa’s unwavering dedication to Nigeria’s progress, with
the telecom giant reaffirming its role as a key partner in the country’s
journey toward becoming a digital powerhouse in Africa. The discussions
centered on empowering Nigeria’s youth, expanding digital infrastructure, and
fostering innovation to unlock the nation’s potential.
One of the key
announcements during the meeting was Airtel Africa’s commitment to supporting
President Tinubu’s 3 Million Technical Talents (3MTT) program. This ambitious
initiative aims to equip 3 million Nigerians with technical skills to drive the
country’s digital economy. Airtel Africa pledged to provide digital skills
training for 25,000 young Nigerians across 80 local government areas, ensuring
that individuals from diverse communities have access to the tools and
knowledge needed to thrive in the digital age.
Mr. Sunil
Bharti Mittal, Chairman of Airtel Africa, emphasized the importance of
investing in Nigeria’s youth. “Nigeria’s young population is its greatest
asset, and empowering them with digital skills is critical to the country’s
future,” he said. “Through our support for the 3MTT program, we are
committed to creating opportunities for young Nigerians to contribute to the
digital economy and achieve their full potential.”
In addition to
its support for the 3MTT program, Airtel Africa announced the launch of the Airtel
Africa Fellowship, a groundbreaking initiative that will sponsor10 Nigerian
students to study tech-focused courses at Plaksha University, one of India’s
most prestigious institutions for technology and innovation. This initiative
aims to bridge the gap between local talent and global opportunities, equipping
Nigerian students with world-class education and skills to drive innovation and
leadership in the tech sector.
During the
meeting, Airtel Africa CEO Sunil Taldar reiterated the company’s commitment to
advancing Nigeria’s digital economy through strategic investments and
partnerships. “Airtel is deeply invested in Nigeria’s digital future,”
he said. “We are expanding our network, driving financial inclusion, and
creating opportunities for the people of Nigeria through technology and
innovation. Our collaboration with the government through initiatives like the
Airtel Africa Fellowship and 3MTT ensures that Nigeria remains at the forefront
of Africa’s digital revolution.”
