Uganda’s Ministry of ICT & National Guidance partners with stakeholders to drive digital literacy

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT & National Guidance, Dr. Aminah Zawedde has convened a high-level meeting with key stakeholders to discuss implementation strategies for the national digital transformation roadmap. The meeting brought together representatives from UNICEF Uganda, the Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT) Governing Council, the Uganda Communications Universal Service Access Fund (UCUSAF), and the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), along with a team of technical experts.

The discussions focused on critical initiatives to improve digital literacy, enhance connectivity, and ensure access to online learning platforms for students across the country, particularly in remote areas. This collaborative effort underscores Uganda’s commitment to leveraging technology to drive inclusive growth and development.

The meeting highlighted the importance of a coordinated approach to implementing Uganda’s digital transformation roadmap. Key stakeholders emphasized the need to address challenges such as limited digital literacy, inadequate connectivity, and unequal access to digital resources. By joining forces, the Ministry of ICT & National Guidance and its partners aim to create a more inclusive digital ecosystem that benefits all Ugandans.

Dr. Aminah Zawedde, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT & National Guidance, stressed the urgency of these efforts. “Digital transformation is not just about technology; it’s about empowering people and creating opportunities for all,” she said. “Our collaboration with partners like UNICEF, UICT, UCUSAF, and UCC is critical to ensuring that no one is left behind in this journey.”

UNICEF Uganda, represented by its Director and Manager of Education, reiterated its commitment to supporting Uganda’s efforts to improve digital literacy and connectivity. “Education is a fundamental right, and technology has the power to transform how we deliver education to children, especially those in underserved communities,” they said. “We are proud to partner with the Ministry of ICT & National Guidance and other stakeholders to make this vision a reality.”

As Uganda continues its journey toward digital transformation, the collaboration between the Ministry of ICT & National Guidance, UNICEF, UICT, UCUSAF, and UCC will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the benefits of technology reach every corner of the country. Together, these efforts will empower individuals, transform communities, and drive Uganda’s progress in the digital age.
