The Minister of
Communication and Digital Economy of The Gambia, Lamin Jabbi Esq has reaffirmed
the nation’s commitment to empowering women in the digital economy. “We
cannot move forward by leaving the women behind,” he declared, emphasizing
the importance of inclusivity and gender equality in driving Africa’s digital
transformation.
Speaking during
the Women on DNS (Domain Name System) capacity-building session organized by
Smart Africa, Hon. Jabbi mentioned the Gambia’s efforts to prioritize women by
ensuring the availability of technical and financial infrastructure, while also
expressing gratitude to Smart Africa for fostering continental collaboration to
tackle these critical issues.
“In The Gambia,
we are committed to prioritizing women by ensuring all the technical and
financial infrastructure is available,” said Hon. Jabbi.
The capacity
session which brought together stakeholders from across the continent to
address the challenges women face in accessing and participating in the digital
economy focused on equipping women with the skills and knowledge needed to
thrive in the tech industry. From understanding the technical aspects of domain
name systems to exploring entrepreneurship opportunities in the digital space,
the training aimed to empower women to take on leadership roles and drive
innovation.
The Women on
DNS capacity-building session is part of Smart Africa’s ongoing efforts to
promote gender inclusivity in the digital economy. By bringing together
policymakers, industry leaders, and advocates, the initiative aims to identify
and address the barriers women face in accessing digital opportunities.
The minister expressed
his appreciation for Smart Africa’s role in fostering collaboration across the
continent. “We are thankful to Smart Africa for bringing Africa together to
understand and solve these key challenges,” he noted.
