Global digital
infrastructure leader Equinix has reinforced its commitment to Africa's digital
transformation with the official launch of its LG2.3 data center in Lagos,
marking a significant milestone in Nigeria's technology ecosystem. The
state-of-the-art facility provides advanced colocation and secure
interconnection solutions designed to support the country's rapidly expanding
digital economy.
The
inauguration ceremony brought together key stakeholders from Nigeria's business
and technology sectors, with Equinix EMEA President Bruce Owen leading the
ribbon-cutting alongside senior executives. The event included strategic
discussions with Lagos State government officials and an exclusive customer
engagement forum highlighting how Equinix's infrastructure enables business
innovation across West Africa.
"Nigeria
represents a strategic growth market for Equinix, and this expansion
demonstrates our long-term commitment to developing Africa's digital
backbone," stated Owen during the launch. The
company underscored its sustainable development approach through a symbolic
tree-planting ceremony, aligning with its global environmental
commitments.
Equinix West
Africa Managing Director Wole Abu emphasized the facility's economic
importance, noting: "As digital transformation accelerates, data
centers have become critical infrastructure powering Nigeria's economic
diversification." The LG2.3 expansion forms part of Equinix's broader
African growth strategy, with additional facilities planned in Ghana, Côte
d'Ivoire and South Africa to meet the continent's rising demand for secure,
scalable digital infrastructure.
