Nigeria mourns the passing of telecom pioneer Dr. Pascal Dozie

The Nigerian business community and telecommunications sector are mourning the loss of Dr. Pascal Gabriel Dozie, the visionary founding chairman of MTN Nigeria, who passed away recently. Known affectionately as PGD, the late industrialist played a pivotal role in Nigeria's digital revolution and leaves behind an enduring legacy as one of Africa's most respected business leaders. 

Dr. Dozie's foresight and unwavering belief in Nigeria's potential were instrumental in establishing MTN's operations in the country, laying the foundation for what would become one of Nigeria's most transformative brands. Under his leadership, MTN Nigeria grew to become a cornerstone of the nation's telecommunications landscape, connecting millions of Nigerians and driving economic growth. 

Karl Toriola, CEO of MTN Nigeria, paid tribute to the late chairman, describing him as a mentor and corporate titan whose values of integrity, resilience, and community service continue to guide the company. "PGD's leadership went beyond business – he was a nation-builder who inspired generations of entrepreneurs and professionals," Toriola stated. 

Beyond his corporate achievements, Dr. Dozie was revered as a gentleman and mentor who nurtured talent across various sectors. His contributions extended to banking, where he founded Diamond Bank, and to numerous philanthropic initiatives focused on education and youth development.
