The Nigerian
business community and telecommunications sector are mourning the loss of Dr.
Pascal Gabriel Dozie, the visionary founding chairman of MTN Nigeria, who
passed away recently. Known affectionately as PGD, the late industrialist
played a pivotal role in Nigeria's digital revolution and leaves behind an
enduring legacy as one of Africa's most respected business leaders.
Dr. Dozie's
foresight and unwavering belief in Nigeria's potential were instrumental in
establishing MTN's operations in the country, laying the foundation for what
would become one of Nigeria's most transformative brands. Under his leadership,
MTN Nigeria grew to become a cornerstone of the nation's telecommunications
landscape, connecting millions of Nigerians and driving economic growth.

Karl Toriola,
CEO of MTN Nigeria, paid tribute to the late chairman, describing him as a
mentor and corporate titan whose values of integrity, resilience, and community
service continue to guide the company. "PGD's leadership went beyond
business – he was a nation-builder who inspired generations of entrepreneurs
and professionals," Toriola stated.
Beyond his
corporate achievements, Dr. Dozie was revered as a gentleman and mentor who
nurtured talent across various sectors. His contributions extended to banking,
where he founded Diamond Bank, and to numerous philanthropic initiatives
focused on education and youth development.
As tributes
pour in from across Africa's business and technology sectors, Dr. Dozie is
remembered as a rare leader who combined sharp business acumen with deep social
consciousness. His legacy lives on through the institutions he built, the lives
he touched, and the digital infrastructure that continues to transform Nigerian
society.
