The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has
announced a National AI Strategy Consultation scheduled for April 15, 2025, at
AH Hotel in East Legon. The event will bring together government officials,
academia, industry leaders, civil society, and tech practitioners to shape an
inclusive and responsible AI framework for national development.
Ghana’s push
for a structured AI strategy follows in the footsteps of Nigeria and Kenya,
which have already launched their national AI policies. While the private
sector in Ghana has previously led AI discussions—especially during the tenure
of former Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful—these efforts received little formal
recognition or policy backing. Under the new leadership of Minister Sam Nartey
George, the government is taking proactive steps to align with global AI
advancements by fostering collaboration across all sectors.
Unlike previous
administrations, Minister Nartey George is prioritizing stakeholder engagement,
ensuring that Ghana’s AI strategy reflects diverse perspectives. The forum will
explore key themes such as ethical AI deployment, local talent development, and
regulatory frameworks to position Ghana competitively in the Fourth Industrial
Revolution.
With AI rapidly
transforming industries worldwide, Ghana’s decision to formalize its strategy
signals a recognition of the technology’s potential to drive efficiency, job
creation, and digital inclusion. By learning from regional leaders like Nigeria
and Kenya while addressing past gaps in policy engagement, the government aims
to create a sustainable AI ecosystem that benefits all citizens.
Stakeholders
are encouraged to participate in this landmark discussion to ensure Ghana’s AI
future is inclusive, innovative, and aligned with global best practices.
