The Universal Postal Union (UPU) has strengthened its support for postal sector development in West Africa with the handover of training equipment to the West African Postal Conference (WAPCO) to enhance capacity-building initiatives across member countries.

The equipment was presented by Mutua Muthusi, Director of Development and Cooperation at the UPU, to Lamine Diallo, Executive Secretary of WAPCO, during a ceremony held in Abuja, Nigeria.

The initiative forms part of the UPU’s broader efforts to strengthen institutional and technical capacities within postal organisations and support the development of a modern and sustainable postal ecosystem across regions.

During the handover ceremony, Mr Muthusi highlighted the strong partnership between the UPU and WAPCO, reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to supporting initiatives that advance postal development in West Africa.

He noted that continued collaboration between international postal bodies and regional institutions remains important in addressing emerging challenges and improving the capacity of postal operators to adapt to changing industry demands.

Mr Diallo expressed appreciation for the UPU’s continued support, particularly in helping WAPCO address postal transport challenges and strengthen the delivery of services across the subregion.

He reaffirmed WAPCO’s commitment to mobilising resources, expertise and partnerships needed to accelerate the modernization and sustainable growth of the postal sector in West Africa.

The support is expected to contribute to enhanced training programmes and knowledge development for postal stakeholders across WAPCO member countries, supporting efforts to build a more efficient and resilient postal network in the region.
