Acquaye
Angola
and Mozambique have strengthened their cooperation in the space sector as both
countries move to accelerate the implementation of joint satellite and
connectivity projects aimed at expanding digital access and supporting
socio-economic development.
The
discussions took place during a working meeting between Angola's National Space
Programme Management Office (GGPEN) and a delegation from Mozambique's National
Communications Institute (INCM), led by the Chairperson of the Board of
Directors, Dr. Helena Fernandes Tomás.
Held
on August 3, the meeting focused on advancing agreements previously signed
between the governments of Angola and Mozambique to enhance collaboration in
the development and application of space technologies.
During
the meeting, INCM expressed interest in leveraging Angola's experience in
implementing and managing its National Space Programme and adopting the Conecta Angola Comercial model to
improve connectivity across Mozambique.
The
Mozambican delegation also reviewed progress on the Proof of Concept (PoC) for
distributing the signal of Mozambique Television (TVM) through Angola's ANGOSAT-2 satellite. Officials
indicated that the initiative is expected to evolve into commercial agreements
aimed at expanding access to communications services throughout Mozambique.
GGPEN
Director General Dr. Zolana João reaffirmed Angola's commitment to implementing
the bilateral cooperation agreements, noting that modern space programmes have
become essential tools for supporting social and economic development.
He
also presented the TV White Space
(TVWS) technology integrated with the Conecta Angola Comercial
initiative, highlighting its potential to deliver internet connectivity to
underserved and remote communities in Mozambique.
The
collaboration forms part of a broader memorandum of cooperation between Angola
and Mozambique that promotes knowledge sharing, technical capacity building and
the joint development of space-based solutions.
