The Roaya Foundation for
Astronomy and Space Applications has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
with Libya’s National Agency for Youth Voluntary Efforts to strengthen the
capacity of young people and volunteers in early warning, emergency preparedness,
disaster risk reduction and crisis response.
The partnership aims to
equip young volunteers, who are often among the first to mobilise during
disasters and emergencies, with knowledge, practical skills, technology and
information needed to respond effectively and support safer and more resilient
communities.
Under the agreement, the two
institutions will collaborate on capacity-building programmes, specialised
training and workshops, the preparation of volunteer team leaders, public
awareness activities and emergency simulation exercises.
The cooperation will also
promote the use of weather and climate data to strengthen community
preparedness and support risk-informed decision-making.
As part of the partnership,
the Roaya Foundation handed over a monitoring station from the Mozn Early
Warning System to the National Agency for Youth Voluntary Efforts. The station
is expected to support local monitoring, data collection, preparedness and
emergency response efforts.
Roaya said the partnership
represents an important step towards positioning young people not only as
beneficiaries of disaster risk reduction programmes but also as active first
responders and community leaders capable of contributing before, during and after
emergencies.
