Ghana’s One
Million Coders Programme (OMCP) has commenced a five-day Training of Trainers
programme in Datacom and Access Network Technologies as part of efforts to
expand the country’s pool of skilled ICT trainers and strengthen digital skills
development.
The training,
which began on Monday, August 31, 2026, is being held at the Ghana-India Kofi
Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) and will run until Friday,
September 4, 2026.
The programme
is being implemented by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and
Innovations (MoCDTI) through the One Million Coders Programme and is aimed at
building a critical mass of qualified ICT trainers who can transfer practical
digital and networking skills to citizens across the country.
Certified
technical experts from Huawei Technologies are delivering the training through
a combination of expert-led lectures, hands-on practical sessions and
competency assessments.
Participants
are receiving intensive instruction in key areas of Datacom and Access Network
Technologies, with training sessions scheduled daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00
p.m.
Participants
who successfully complete the programme will be expected to serve as certified
OMCP trainers and cascade the knowledge acquired by training at least 20
members of the public.
The initiative
is expected to expand access to practical ICT and networking skills while
strengthening Ghana’s digital skills ecosystem and supporting the development
of a workforce capable of responding to the demands of the evolving digital
economy.
The One Million
Coders Programme remains a key national initiative under the government’s
efforts to develop a digitally skilled workforce and position Ghana to take
advantage of opportunities emerging from the rapidly growing technology and
digital sectors.
