Gabon is expanding access to
digital services in Makokou through the deployment of public Wi-Fi
infrastructure and technical systems supporting the digitisation of public
services as part of the country’s digital transformation agenda.
The Ministry of Digital
Economy, Digitalization and Innovation, through the Agence Nationale des
Infrastructures Numériques et des Fréquences (ANINF), has deployed two public
Wi-Fi spaces at the Place de l’Indépendance and the Alexandre Sambat Stadium.
The facilities are intended
to improve public access to the internet and contribute to reducing the digital
divide, particularly during activities marking Liberation Day.
Makokou is also hosting a
registration system for digitised driving licences. To support the new digital
public service, ANINF has installed the technical infrastructure required for
the operation of the enrolment centre, including a local area network, dedicated
internet connectivity and systems designed to secure the power supply for
equipment.
The infrastructure is
intended to provide the technical conditions required for reliable enrolment
operations and the implementation of the digital driving licence as part of the
government’s efforts to modernise public services.
ANINF has also deployed
dedicated electrical circuits, inverters and voltage regulators to improve the
availability and continuity of the installations.
The deployment followed
several weeks of work by ANINF engineers and technicians to install and
operationalise the various digital infrastructures in Makokou.
The initiatives combine
expanded internet access with the digitisation of administrative procedures,
reflecting the government’s broader objective of bringing digital services
closer to citizens across the country.
The Ministry said the
investments demonstrate its commitment to connecting territories, digitising
public services and simplifying access to government services for citizens
regardless of their location.
