Egypt has trained 60
government professionals to operate its new National Digital Climate Change
Platform as part of efforts to strengthen climate adaptation, improve access to
climate data and support evidence-based decision-making.
The four-day practical
training was organised under the National Adaptation Plan Project (NAP),
implemented by the Ministry of Local Development and Environment through the
Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA), in partnership with UNDP Egypt
and with support from the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
The platform brings together
climate data covering all 27 governorates, including climate-risk assessments
and sector-specific adaptation measures. It converts this information into
maps, indicators and reports designed to support planning and decision-making
by government institutions.
The training is part of a
three-phase capacity-building programme covering data preparation, platform
development, system operation, cybersecurity and deployment within government
institutions.
Participants were drawn from
seven ministries and national research institutions and are expected to form a
technical network responsible for operating, maintaining and updating the
platform.
The initiative is also
intended to strengthen national ownership of Egypt’s climate information
infrastructure by ensuring that technical expertise required to manage the
platform is retained within national institutions.
The National Adaptation Plan
Project supports Egypt’s efforts to strengthen climate resilience and advance a
consultative and participatory process for developing its National Adaptation
Plan.
