Visa and the Banque Centrale
du Congo (BCC) have held a workshop in Abidjan to discuss the future of digital
payments in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), focusing on opportunities,
challenges and priorities for the country’s digital payments ecosystem.
The workshop brought
together Visa and the Central Bank of Congo for discussions aimed at
strengthening understanding of the opportunities and challenges shaping the
development of digital payments in the DRC.
The engagement provided an
opportunity for stakeholders to examine priorities for the sector and discuss
areas where greater collaboration could support the continued development of
digital payment solutions.
According to Chidozie
Arinze, Senior Director and Head of Government Affairs for Western and Central
Africa at Visa, the discussions resulted in a stronger partnership between Visa
and the central bank.
He said both sides left the
engagement with a commitment to turning the priorities identified during the
workshop into concrete action.
The workshop forms part of
ongoing efforts to deepen collaboration between financial sector institutions
and technology providers as digital payments continue to evolve across the DRC.
